Directions to the Fox Hill Ski Area

The Cedar Lakes Conservation Foundation owns much of the property adjoining the Fox Hill Ski Area (the downhill area run by the Milwaukee Ski Club) and is home to the Fox Hill Nordic Trails located in the Klinger Fox Hill Nature Conservancy (click here for additional maps and information),.
Fox Hill Nordic expertly maintains over 20K of excellent cross country trails for skiiers to explore.

The Milwaukee Ski Club is Private and the Fox Hill Ski Area and facilites of the club are limited to members of the Milwaukee Ski Club as stated in the by-laws. Of course current members of Fox Hill Nordic are welcome to use the Chalet, Parking Lot and nordic loops/connectors on Milwaukee Ski Club property as per Milwaukee Ski Club Cross-country membership included in the Fox Hill Nordic Membership.

Chalet

Fox Hill Nordic skiiers are welcome to use the Fox Hill Chalet during the usual chalet operating hours (when the down hill area is in operation which is usually weekends aproximatly 10am to 3:30pm). Please have any items out of the chalet by 3:30 pm so that the hill crew can close the chalet.

Grooming

Trail Grooming is done with a Tidd-tec groomer drag pulled by one of two utility snowmobiles to keep the trails in excellent condition. The Tidd-tec can pack, comb, and trackset leaving a high quality skiing surface, in addition to the Tidd-tec several other implements are available to the grooming staff including roller packers, scarifiers and other tools.
Trails are groomed regularly for Skate skiing and a Classical track is set on most of the trail system as conditions permit.

To help select the proper wax, there is a themometer on the side of the trail head sign, additional thermometers are located in the chalet and on the utility pole just out from the ski patrol room.

Parking

Please park on the west side of the parking lot and display your current parking pass. Do not block the two marked no parking areas that lead to the chalet, and to the area in front of the garage. The parking requirements are in place to assist us in parking lot plowing, hill grooming, and ambulance access.

Parking areas

Parking for Fox Hill Nordic Trails is also available at  the Klinger Memorial Rock entrance just north of the Fox Hill Ski Area property, right off of county highway NN.

Safety Message for Cross Country Skiers:

Skiers should be aware that not all trails are groomed and that groomed trails cannot always be groomed on a regular basis. The quality of the groomed trails also varies depending on use. Even the best groomed trails can quickly be destroyed by heavy traffic or hiking.

Skiers should not ski beyond their abilities. Taking more difficult trails or allowing speed to build up beyond ability to control descent impairs safety of all skiers.

In case of an emergency on the trail, members of the Fox Hill Ski Patrol can respond to incidents. Normal coverage is anytime the downhill ski area is in operation (usually weekend days 10am - 4 PM), otherwise contact Patrol Represenative Tom Weinand or Call 911.
If you find someone that has been injured do not move them and send someone for the Ski Patrol immediately, notify the patroller of the nature of the incident and the exact location.
If a anyone is missing or overdue follow the procedure above and make a note of when the person(s) were last seen, descripion of individual(s) and time, pass this information on to the Ski Patrol.

Trail Etiquette (respect our groomers)

Trails are groomed by volunteers for skiers' enjoyment. In the winter, please use the groomed trails for skiing only. It is very discouraging to find the ski trails trashed after spending hours  grooming. Foot prints from hiking make big depressions and chunks in the snow. It is very difficult to negotiate with skis in this situation. If there is some emergency with the need to go back into the trail system on foot please do not walk on the bridges walk along side them, the bridges are the hardest part to keep snow on, please stay off to the side, and if possible follow the snow shoe trail. Hikers are welcome during the "off season" (This means any time there is no snow).
Snow-shoers are asked to follow the special snow-shoe trail marked by ribbons, please do not follow the Nordic trail.
